Incoming First-Year Scholarships

If you plan to enrol in your first year of an undergraduate degree at UC in 2025, we recommend you apply for one or more of our Incoming First-Year Scholarships. Each scholarship has different eligibility criteria like subject area, level, and qualification. Find out more and apply.

Incoming First-Year Scholarships open 20 June 2024

Scholarships for Incoming First-Year students are available for application annually. If you are planning to enrol in your first year of an undergraduate degree at UC next year, it's worth applying for a scholarship (or five!) to fund your studies.

Each scholarship has different eligibility criteriasuch asthe subject area, level, and/or qualification youplan to study at UC; your age, gender, ethnicity, and citizenship;and which high schooland/or regionyou are coming from.

Incoming First-Year Scholarships are available specifically for:

  • Māori and Pacific students
  • Studentswho can demonstrateleadershippotential
  • Students with financial hardship or other personal circumstances
  • Students moving away from home to study at UC (withaccommodation costs)

We recommend you apply for all thescholarships you are eligible for, as it is possible to be awarded more than one scholarship at a time.

  • Read the regulations
    They tell you what the SelectionCommittee will be looking for andwhether you are eligible.
  • Start your application early
    You can save and come back to itlater if you need to do moreresearch.

  • Talk to your referees
    It is important they know to expect arequest from UC (which will have adeadline).

  • Submit your application bythe deadline
    This date is not flexible.

  • Sell yourself
    Scholarships are highly competitive,so make the most of the word limitin open ended questions. This is an opportunity to tell us why youdeserve the scholarship.

  • Apply for all the scholarships you areeligible for
    Many scholarships allow you to hold more than one at a time.
