The removal of the traffic light system means a return to business as usual without restriction, however it does not change how quickly Covid-19 can spread and the seriousness of the illness. With this in mind, please continue good health practices:

  • Wash your hands regularly and use hand sanitiser.
  • Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Clean or disinfect shared surfaces regularly.
  • Consider wearing a face mask when working close to others and please respect anyone who chooses to wear a mask.

Changes to the Special Consideration process for COVID-related applications

All COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted by the Government, and as a result the Special Consideration process for COVID-related illness has changed.

The听Special Consideration Medical Form听is now required for a COVID-related special consideration applications. UC Assura and Ministry of Health self-declarations as the only evidence of illness will no longer be accepted.听听

Your health professional will advise you if you should be attending a test or exam. We do not want unwell students in test/exam rooms if they are deemed too unwell by their health professional to attend.

Students who are unable to attend a test or examination must see a health professional (either in person or virtually) within 48 hours of the assessment date.听 If you have difficulty meeting this requirement contact听specialconsideration@canterbury.ac.nz听as soon as possible. Students applying for an impaired performance special consideration must see a health professional no later than 10 working days from the date of the assessment, bearing in mind that you need to see your health professional whilst unwell, not after the fact.听

For non-test or examination assessment items, such as for an essay, assignment, quiz, etc, in the first instance contact your course coordinator or lecturer to discuss an extension of time to complete the assessment item.听 A special consideration application is not required for an extension of time to be granted.听 听Should an extension be granted and you are still impaired at the extended due date, or an extension is not available, then at that point a special consideration application can be submitted with the appropriate supporting documentation.

For further advice on special consideration applications, contact听specialconsideration@canterbury.ac.nz, check听the website, or contact one of the听support services听on campus.
