Paiheretia te muka tangata

Paihere means to unite, bind or unify. In the context of this kaupapa, this whakatauk墨 recognises the bringing together and binding of many strands of support for 膩konga M膩ori who are new to Te Whare W膩nanga o Waitaha | University of 萝莉社. Through Paihere, our UC M膩ori mentoring and leadership programme, 膩konga M膩ori have the opportunity to connect with other more experienced 膩konga.

Adopting a Kaupapa M膩ori framework centred on building a strong sense of wh膩nau for 膩konga M膩ori at UC, Paihere recognises the important role, and valued relationship, of tu膩kana and t膩ina - older and younger siblings. From a UC context, Tu膩kana are our Kaitaki, senior 膩konga leaders who alongside Kai膩whina, senior 膩konga who have a strong record of academic achievement,听both听provide support and guidance for T膩ina. This integrated approach ensures 膩konga M膩ori who are new to UC are engaged, connected and supported as they naviagate their first year of study here with us at Te Whare W膩nanga o Waitaha. Paihere incorporates, explores and recognises听the听UC7 graduate attributes听which align and underpin its foundation.

The Paihere programme is a programme that recognises the value of ako, complementary learning and is a collaboration with Te Waka P膩k膩kano and Te Akatoki M膩ori Students' Association.听 Within Paihere the three complementary roles involves:

  • 罢腻颈苍补:听First year and new to UC 膩konga M膩ori, including Takere and Kaitoko M膩ori Scholarship recipients
  • Taurima:听膧konga M膩ori student leaders who provide live in support and mentoring during the Takere Academy over the summer
  • Kaitaki:听膧konga M膩ori student leaders听who provide听mentoring and听support for T膩ina, community and event support on campus, such as听Aukaha
  • 碍补颈腻飞丑颈苍补:听Academic high achieving 膩konga who provide tutoring

With a strong focus on peer networking, we encourage UC 膩konga M膩ori to make the most of the learning opportunities available on campus and seek to connect students with peers that might be studying in the same areas as you.
