Printing and copying

UC provides various print and copying services to our students and staff. These are mainly available via Follow-You printing. Find out about printing and copying at UC.

Overview

Staff can print to any printer on campus by using Follow-You printing or can go to UC print for more specific requirements.

Other print services

The听Copy Centre听provides a variety of services including photocopying, printing, wide format printing, and thesis binding. It is located by the UC Warehouse next to the听K1 Lecture Theatre, 20 Kirkwood Avenue听and is open Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm.

Doctoral printing allowance

All enrolled doctoral students will be credited a $30 allowance for printing from 1 February. Doctoral students who start after this date will receive the $30 allowance within the first month of study at UC. If you have not received this allowance within the first month, please contact the Service desk听听to听arrange for the allowance to be added.

Any allowance left at the end of your study with UC will not be refunded.听

Where the nature of the research undertaken requires significant printing over and above personal usage, this should be identified and discussed with the supervisor of your doctoral programme.

Setup Follow-You printing on Windows

On Windows computers you can send your printing jobs to printers via WiFi networks. Use the following instructions to add Follow-you printers.

1. Open a Run command line window by pressing the听Windows key听and the听r听key at the same time.

2. Type听\\print.canterbury.ac.nz听and click听OK.

3. Enter听uocnt\username听and your password.
Note: Tick the Remember my credentials tickbox.

4. On the pop up printer list, find听FollowYou-BlackAndWhite on print, double click on it and follow the instructions that come up on the screen.

5. Find听FollowYou-Colour on print听on the printer list, double click on it and follow the instructions that come up on the screen.

6. Close the pop up list when you are finished. These printer options should now be seen in your听Devices and Printers听list.

Tip: Use the听FollowYou-Colour听option for printing that you want to print in part or full colour.

Setup Follow-You printing on Macs

On Mac computers, you can send your printing jobs to printers via WiFi networks. Use the following instructions to add Follow-you printers.

1. Download the Ricoh printer drivers by clicking here.听(You will be asked to enter your UC userID and password) (听

2. When you open the download, the RicohPrinterDrivers installer package will appear. Double-click it and follow the prompts.

听Note:听To install the drivers, you will need to use the administration password for your computer.

3. Next, download the installer by entering the following URL into your browser;

4. In your 鈥渄ownloads鈥 folder, open the downloaded disk image.

5. To install the printer queues, open the 鈥淔ollowYou.pkg鈥 package and follow the prompts. To complete the install, you will again need to use the administration password for your computer.

6. To check that the printers have been installed, click the Apple Menu icon then 鈥淪ystem Preferences鈥 then 鈥淧rinters and Scanners鈥.听

7.听Now print a document and ensure you select the correct 鈥淔ollowYou鈥 printer (either FollowYou-Black and White or FollowYou-Colour).

8. When you print for the first time, a pop-up window will appear showing the document and 鈥淗old for Authentication鈥 (click the icon next to the 鈥渪鈥).

9. In the pop up window, the name field may be pre-filled with your administrator username. Enter your UC username and password, tick 鈥渞emember this password in my keychain鈥 tick-box, and click on the 鈥淥K鈥 button.

10. In your 鈥渄ownloads鈥 folder, open the downloaded disk image.

Setup other printers (not on Follow-You system)

Use the following instructions to add the printer on Windows computers, that aren't set up for Follow-You printing.

1. Open a Run command line window by pressing the听Windows key听and the听r听key at the same time.
2. Type either听\\ucprint3听or听\\ucprint4听(each contains different printers) and click听OK.

3. Enter听uocnt\username听and your password.

Note: Tick the Remember my credentials tickbox.

4. Find the new printer on the list, double click on it and follow the instructions that come up on the screen.

5. Close the screen when finished and you will then see the printer listed in your听Devices and Printers听list.
